"Petro: A Menace to the Valley"

Although he was known as "Public Enemy #1" and "Cleveland's Handsomest Public Enemy," Julius Petro's most notorious activities took place in the Mahoning Valley. Included among his crimes here was the brazen robbery of the Green Acres gambling casino in Struthers; a home invasion in Alliance; and one of Warren's most infamous robberies, the theft of $71,000 from the branch manager of Union Savings & Trust Co. in broad daylight in the middle of Kenilworth Avenue. An alert young college student from Warren would put an end to Petro's criminal activities in Ohio for the next 13 years. Petro's career would come to an end at the hands of one of Cleveland's most notorious hit men in California in 1969.
